Retreats

OYFF1(88)2

OYFF hosts several Birth Mother Retreats each year to provide birth mothers with an opportunity to share common experiences, participate in therapeutic workshops and build community.  Birth mothers leave the two day retreat feeling rejuvenated and inspired having made new allies who share a common bond. Retreats will be held on the following weekends in 2017:

  • January 27-29 at Ralston White Retreat Center (Registration opens 12/16/16)
  • September 8-10 at Ralston White Retreat Center (Registration opens 7/17/17)

What to Expect

OYFF Retreats are free of charge.  All food is included and we do our best to accommodate food allergies, vegetarians, etc.  We assign rooms ahead of time, and typically women share a room with one other person with a bathroom nearby.  Following is a sample agenda for a typical retreat weekend:

Friday

  • Arrival, greet first-time attendees
  • “Step Into the Heart,” a beloved tradition where birth mothers can tell parts of their story, and see who else shares their experience
  • Community check-in, reflections on adoption

Saturday

  • Morning full group, addressing topics such as ambiguous loss, birth mothers tasks post-adoption, dealing with regret and shame, and the Seven Core issues of adoption
  • Afternoon small groups, addressing topics such as learning from adult adoptees, dating after placement, relationship skills for open adoptions, and rewriting your narrative
  • Afternoon free time – options may include activities such as massage, guided hikes, yoga, Zumba and community
  • Evening group, including activities such as making a memory book, positive affirmation mirror, or planting your future

Sunday

  • Morning full group, addressing topics such as values, meeting your future self, and guided meditation
  • Evaluations, reflections, and closing circle
